Book Tour and Giveaway: The Knife and the Butterfly

If you've spent any amount of time around the Bookshelf, then you know how much I loved Ashley Hope Perez's debut, What Can(t) Wait. So when Ashley invited me to be a part of the blog tour for her sophomore release, The Knife and the Butterfly? Let's just say it wasn't a difficult decision. That review will go live tomorrow, and in the meantime, check it out on Goodreads, IndieBound, and Barnes & Noble.

First, for a not-such-a-secret: I loved The Knife and the Butterfly even more than I loved What Can(t) Wait, and, because I love you guys, have ordered a copy from my local indie bookstore. Hi everybody, this is Ashley Hope Pérez! Welcome to my favorite game, two truths and a lie! So here's how it works. Below are three statements about me, two of which are true. Can you spot the lie? Comment with your guess. Folks who get it right will have a chance at winning a copy of The Knife and the Butterfly. The stories behind the truths and the lie—and the winner of the contest—will be revealed on Wednesday, March 7th.

1.  I protested at a World Trade Organization meeting in Boston when I was a college freshman.

2. During my first year teaching, I taught my students the word “assuage” and told them that it rhymed with “sewage.”

3. My nickname in middle school was “Twinkle Toes” because I kept falling down while playing basketball.

Ashley Hope Pérez is the author of two young adult novels, WHAT CAN'T WAIT and THE KNIFE AND THE BUTTERFLY. She also is a passionate teacher and student working on her PhD in comparative literature. At the moment, she lives in Paris with her husband and son where they enjoy culture, croissants, and cramped living quarters.
